Ms. Rabab Fatima was appointed as the Under-Secretary-General and High Representative for the Least Developed Countries (LDCs), Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs) and Small Island Developing States (SIDS) by the United Nations Secretary-General in August 2022. As the High Representative, Ms. Rabab Fatima is responsible for supporting the LDCs, LLDCs, and SIDS in achieving their development priorities as contained in their respective programmes of actions adopted by global consensus, and the Sustainable Development Goals. Together, these groups of countries constitute the 92 most vulnerable countries in the world. The UN Secretary-General appointed Ms. Fatima as the Secretary-General of the Third United Nations Conference of the LLDCs (2025), and the Fifth United Nations Conference on LDCs (2023), and as the Special Adviser of the Fourth United Nations Conference of the SIDS (2024). She also serves as the Secretary-General’s representative on the Council of the United Nations Technology Bank for the LDCs. Ms. Fatima has over thirty years of experience in the national and international civil service, with specialization in multilateral diplomacy, international development, human rights, and humanitarian issues.
