Mr. Paul Durrant has over 26 years of experience in technology policy, clean energy innovation, and international collaboration. He currently leads the UK government’s efforts to advance technology-driven solutions for climate mitigation globally, using international climate finance and other mechanisms to support decarbonization in developing economies. This includes managing the Department for Energy Security & Net Zero’s share of the £1 billion Ayrton Fund. He also serves as joint Head of the Breakthrough Agenda Secretariat, co-leading an international team supporting 61 countries and over 150 initiatives to strengthen collaboration across major emitting sectors and coordinate outcomes for COP processes. Previously, he held senior roles in UK energy policy, including Head of Energy Innovation Policy (DECC) and Head of Energy Innovation Strategy and Engagement (BEIS), overseeing innovation funding and cross-government coordination. Internationally, he worked at IRENA and led UK engagement in Mission Innovation, later heading its Secretariat. He also represented the UK in the EU Strategic Energy Technology Plan.
