Mr. Oleksiy Tatarenko

Oleksiy Tatarenko is a Senior Principal in the Climate-Aligned Industries Program at RMI, where he leads the hydrogen initiative, covering clean hydrogen hubs in the United States, as well as applications in shipping, fertilizers, infrastructure, and international policy and trade. He also contributes to the Green Hydrogen Catapult, a joint initiative with the UN High-Level Climate Champions to accelerate global deployment of green hydrogen at scale. With 17 years of experience across the public and private sectors, he focuses on system-level energy transition and innovative business models. At Shell, he led the Energy Transition Program, advancing hydrogen initiatives and developing decarbonization strategies at sectoral and country levels, while contributing to the company’s Scenarios team. He also served as Deputy Country Chair for Shell in Ukraine. Earlier, he founded a venture to reduce methane leakage in Ukraine under the Kyoto Protocol and advised the Minister of Energy on energy security and investment strategies. He holds a PhD in Economics and an MBA from Kyiv National Economic University.
