Dr. Muaviyath Mohamed has served Minister of State in the Maldives’ Ministry of Tourism and Environment since December 2023, with a focus on the energy portfolio. Prior to this, he held senior academic roles, including Deputy Vice Chancellor and Dean of the Faculty of Engineering Technology at The Maldives National University. He holds a PhD in mechanical engineering from the University of Canterbury, New Zealand, where he specialised in renewable energy for small islands. Dr Mohamed also holds a master’s degree in marine technology from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, a bachelor’s degree from the Islamic University of Technology in Bangladesh and an MBA earned in 2021.
