Mr. Hans Joachim Schellnhuber

Hans Joachim (“John”) Schellnhuber is Director General of IIASA and founding director of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (1992–2018). He also served as Research Director of the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research. Since 2019, his work has focused on transforming the built environment, emphasizing regenerative architecture and climate restoration. He founded Bauhaus Earth and advises global leaders and institutions, contributing to the IPCC. A member of leading academies, including Leopoldina and the US National Academy of Sciences, he has received major awards such as the German Environmental Prize, Blue Planet Prize and German Sustainability Prize. He holds numerous national and international honors. Trained in physics and mathematics, he has authored around 300 scientific publications and is a Highly Cited Researcher.
