The Mutirão and Burkindi Coalition Capacity Building Initiative
H.R.H. Princess Abze Djigma is a Mossi Princess from Burkina Faso and a leading representative of traditional authorities in Africa. She is the founder of the MAMA-LIGHT® Initiative for Sustainable Energy, recognized by the UN General Assembly in 2015 as one of 14 breakthrough solutions for achieving the SDGs. With over 25 years of experience in rural development, she has worked extensively with local communities and the United Nations, and is internationally recognized for empowering women, youth, and the informal sector. A senior negotiator on environment and climate policy, she has over 20 years of experience in global climate negotiations, including COPs and the Sendai Framework. She currently serves as Co-Chair of the Paris Committee on Capacity-Building (PCCB), representing Least Developed Countries (LDCs), leads the Adaptation Stream for the G77 and China, and is LDC Coordinator on Just Transition. She also leads the Mutirão and Burkindi Coalition Capacity Building Initiative, advancing adaptation and just transition efforts through inclusive, community-driven approaches. She holds an honorary doctorate from the University of Okayama, Japan, for her contributions to sustainable development, education, and inclusive societies.
