Norbert Totschnig has served as Austria’s Federal Minister for Agriculture and Forestry, Climate and Environmental Protection, Regions and Water Management since March 2025. Born in Lienz, Tyrol, in 1974, he grew up on a family farm and studied International Economics in Innsbruck and Madrid. He has held several policy roles within the Austrian People’s Party, including coordinating agricultural and environmental policy in Parliament. He later served as budget officer at the Federal Ministry of Finance and as policy advisor at the Federal Ministry of Science, Research and Economy. In 2017 he became Director of the Austrian Farmers’ Association in Vienna. His political approach is guided by the eco-social market economy, seeking to balance economic strength, environmental responsibility and social cohesion. His priorities include food security, clean water, renewable resources, effective climate protection and strengthening sustainable regional development.
