H.E. Mr. Lok Bahadur Thapa is the President of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) for the 2025–2026 session and serves as the Permanent Representative of Nepal to the United Nations. He also chairs the Global Coordination Bureau of the Least Developed Countries (LDCs), playing a key role in advancing LDC priorities in global decision-making. With over 35 years of diplomatic experience, he has held senior positions in Nepal’s Foreign Service, including Ambassador to Belgium and Head of Mission to the European Union, as well as Permanent Representative to several international organizations. Ambassador Thapa has extensive expertise in multilateral diplomacy and international negotiations, and has contributed to major global processes, including financing for development. He holds advanced degrees in diplomacy and public administration and has received national recognition for his distinguished public service.
