Advancing a gender-just energy transition at VEF 2021

By sharing best practices and success stories, the Vienna Energy Forum (VEF) 2021 increased awareness of the gender energy gap and played a pivotal role in creating the Gender and Energy Compact Coalition. As representation matters, the VEF ensured a 1:1 gender balance for speakers at VEF and Youth for VEF.

The VEF Virtual Series 2021 launched a Call to Action highlighting key action areas to close the gender gap in the energy sector. This was pivotal to create the Gender and Energy Compact, a global, multi-stakeholder coalition aimed at catalyzing action towards gender equality and women’s empowerment to accelerate a just, inclusive and sustainable energy transition. Today, ten champion countries and more than 75 partners have committed to take action to enhance gender equality and empower women. Find out how your organization can join.

This year, the VEF will once again advocate for gender balance and mainstream gender dimensions throughout its programme and topics by discussing means to enhance gender equality and empower women and girls in each session. The VEF 2023 will also host the first in person meeting of the Gender Energy Compact Coalition since its formation.
