Member of the Board of Directors, Green Climate Fund (GCF)
Omar El-Arini was the first Chief Officer of the Multilateral Fund for the Implementation of the Montreal Protocol from February 1991 to October 2003.
In recognition of his contribution to the work of the Multilateral Fund, the Executive Committee of the Fund granted him the title of “Honorary Chief Officer of the Multilateral Fund” for life.
A national of Egypt, he was educated in Egypt, the USA, and holds a PHD from Imperial College (UK).
He is currently a senior advisor to the government of Egypt, and a member of the Board of the Green Climate Fund (GCF), and of the South Center. He was a member of the Transitional Committee, established by UNFCCC (COP 16), for designing the GCF. He has also contributed to formulation of operational policies of Adaptation Fund.
Prior to joining the Multilateral Fund, he held research and teaching positions in Egypt, Germany and the Netherlands.
