Minister of Petroleum and Energy

Ms Aïssatou Sophie Gladima was appointed Minister of Petroleum and Energy on 1 November 2020. Previously, she held the position of Minister of Telecommunications, Posts and Information and Communication Technologies and Minister of Mines and Geology.
Before joining the Senegalese government, Ms Aïssatou Sophie Gladima was Director General of the National Agency of applied scientific research (ANRSA), President of the Board of Directors of the National institute of pedology (INP) and Technical Adviser to the Prime Minister in charge of Mines, Energy and Hydraulics.
Aïssatou Sophie Gladima was Secretary for West Africa of the Geological Society of Africa (G.S.A.F), head of the “water and research” commission of the Global Water Partnership (GWP) monitoring committee, member of the scientific committee of the XVth summit of the Francophonie and of the scientific committee of the Centre des Hautes Etudes de Défense et de Sécurité (CHEDS).
Her 30 years of professional experience in the fields of geology, hydraulics, isotope hydrochemistry, scientific research and teaching are an invaluable asset in facilitating the implementation of projects and programmes in any field in which she may be called upon to use her skills.
Aïssatou Sophie Gladima is a geological engineer with a degree from the Institute des Sciences de la Terre (IST) at Cheikh Anta Diop University in Dakar. She holds an MSc in Applied Geophysics from the University of Laval, Quebec (Canada) and a PhD in General Hydrogeology, as well as a post-graduate thesis in Applied Physics and Isotopic Hydrochemistry from the Geology Department of the Faculty of Science at Cheikh Anta Diop University in Dakar (UCAD). She is a lecturer and researcher in the Geology Department of the Cheikh Anta Diop University in Dakar.
