Alliance for Rural Electrification (ARE)
David Lecoque is the CEO of the Alliance for Rural Electrification (ARE), the global business association for distributed renewables in emerging markets. Under his leadership, ARE has scaled up dramatically and cemented its incumbent position as the voice of the private sector delivering on universal clean electrification and the energy transition.
Today, the association federates and provides unparalleled business development, public relations, marketing and training services to over 200 leading energy corporates and investors operating in 50+ markets across Africa, Asia-Pacific and LAC, and relies on a network exceeding 30,000 stakeholders.
Moreover, ARE conceptualises and implements impact-oriented cooperation programmes with numerous governments, leading international institutions incl EU, UN and DFI as well as philanthropic actors.
Prior to ARE, David practised and qualified as an energy and environment lawyer at top-tier international law firms Liedekerke and CMS. David focused on both advisory and litigation around power and gas market design, tariffs, renewable energy support schemes, permitting, energy sector taxation, IPP contracting, waste and pollution.
David holds an LL.M in European Law from the College of Europe, a BA and MA of Laws from the Free University of Brussels (VUB) as well as degrees from the ULB, the University of Malta, the International Business Institute and Axelos. David speaks English, French, Dutch, German and aspires to learn Turkish and Mandarin.
