How to Secure Successful and Sustainable Capacity Development

Side Event: How to Secure Successful and Sustainable Capacity Development?

Timing
Date: Saturday, 20th June 2015          Time: 10:45 – 12:00         Room: Rittersaal           Duration: 75 minutes
Background
Capacity Development (CD) and Capacity Building (CB) play a crucial role when sustainable energy supply will be implemented and investments into the technologies or into local companies are planned. The importance to enable key stakeholders along the value chain from the public, private and financial sector in fulfilling their roles is a precondition for a sound market development of Renewable Energy (RE) and Energy Efficiency (EE). But this relevance is oftentimes underestimated. Further on, missing donor coordination, unsystematic approaches or insufficient quality standards make it difficult for CD and CB activities to gain success.
Introduction
The workshop on “How to secure successful and sustainable Capacity Development” will improve the perception and knowledge about CD and CB, showcase successful methodologies and regional implementation and gives ideas for a good design and systematic approaches. It will highlight different aspects of capacity development, share experiences of experts from UNIDO, ECREEE, TERI, RENAC, NREL, REEEP and RCREEE and provide a platform where ideas and recommendations on good strategies and design of CD and CB can be exchanged.
Co-Organizers

 Renewables Academy (RENAC), Germany;

United Nations Industrial Development Organization, UNIDO, Austria.
Objectives
Objectives of the workshop are to:
